ocr: Polar bear The harsh arctic environment is home to the polar bear, an enormous 8 foot long bear that may weigh up to 1500 pounds. Polar bears eat seals but also prey - on some fish and birds. The bears eat most of their food - - in the springtime, when seals are easiest to find. They may gain 200 pounds of weight at this time -the food is stored as fat, and is used later in the year when seals are not so easy - to find.
